Comparison
1. Positive Degree
As…….as is used to say that the two parts of a comparison are egual or the same in same way.
Contoh:
· Tono 19 years old
· Didi 19 years old
· Ani 18 years old
1. Tono is as old as Didi
2. Ani is not as old as Didi
3. Mike came as quickly as he could
2. Comparative Degree
The comparative compares “this/these, to, that/those”.
Form: - Suffix-er- for one syllable
- more- formore than one syllable word
- less
a comparative is followed by “than”.
· er……………than
· more………...than
· less………….than
Contoh:
Tina 20 years old, Dina 18 years old
1. Tina is older than Dina
2. This book is more exspensive than that one
3. This blue pan is less exspensive than the black
4. Tom is much older than I am
3. Superlative Degree
The superlative compares one part of a whole group to all the rest of the group.
Form: - Suffix-est = for one syllable word
- The most….. = formore than one syllable word
- The least
a superlative degree begins with “the”
· the……….est
· the most………
· the least………
Contoh:
1. This building is the highest, building in this town
2. This test is the most difficult test I’ve ever know
3. This pen is the least exspensive of all
4. David the most generous person I have ever known
5. I have three books. These two are quite good, but this one is the best of all
